Why Implementing Mindfulness and Resilience?

A Modern Solution for Challenges facing the Businesses of Today.

Continuous acceleration of technology and change, leads to:

- An ever increasing burnout rate among employees
- More employees taking sick leave
- Satisfaction and well-being of employees decreases
- The challenge to deal with employees’ fears
- Difficulty to plan ahead and manage the unexpected
- To remain innovative and creative under pressure

One way to deal with these challenges is mindfulness practice among employees.

The social acceleration

Everything is becoming faster - That is at least the perception of most people: faster communication, quicker changes and more demands. Due to this acceleration, many employees have an enormous to-do-list and often feel overwhelmed. One way to deal with this challenge is called mindfulness.

Scientists across the globe have identified positive effects of mindfulness and companies like Google, Facebook and SAP have already implemented mindfulness interventions.

The main question that arises for companies and organisations unfamiliar with this concept is: What is Mindfulness? Why does it help so many people to cope with an ever accelerating society? How can mindfulness support concentration?

Mindfulness practice has the potential to help employees to deal with uncertainties, become more creative and resilient.

About The Service

How will Mindfulness Consultancy help my business?

Having focused, less stressed and more creative employees gives tremendous benefits. Employees are able identify new ideas during mindfulness exercises. They do a break on purpose, which allows them to refuel their energy level and avoid them to get mentally exhausted or even burnout. Having employees who are more focused do less mistakes, they listen more attentive and work more efficiently. But mindfulness is not about efficiency increase. It is about being together and kind. Mindfulness practice improves social relationships. Being at work and having enjoying it is very important for resilience, performance and development of the whole organisation. The team at MindEvolved will help you to develop your entire organisation into a more Mindful Organisation, which will be able to be more resilient.

What Does a Typical Implementation of Mindfulness within an Organisation Look Like?

MindEvolved will accompany you for 6 - 36 months when implementing a Mindfulness Program within your organisation. Learning & implementing Mindfulness is quite challenging and requires a proper roll out, otherwise the full beneficial effects will not be fully realised. We start by providing an overview: What is mindfulness? Why does it help so many to deal with the accelerating and complex world? What is the science behind Mindfulness and its effects on individuals and organisations?

After the overview there is a one or two day seminar. In that seminar, attendees learn the basics of mindfulness, resilience and how they can apply their learning on the job. After this seminar follow-up sessions are scheduled. These follow-up sessions take place every other week. Attendees learn new topics, such as mindfulness and decision-making or mindfulness and happiness. Implementing mindfulness is a journey. A quick fix solution cannot be obtained. MindEvolved will guide you through the entire process of implementing mindfulness in your organisation.

What is the Investment to become a Mindful Organisation?

Time is an investment. The employees are encouraged to practice 10 to 20 minutes every day. These Mindful Breaks will refuel the employees energy levels, allow creativity to develop, improve focus and deepen the Mindfulness Practice. One course attendee reported the following:

„Somehow I refuel. I regain strength and mental capacities. I can put daily work and private hustles aside. These 20 minutes just belong to me and afterwards, I am able to take care of others again”

Another way to see it is as an analogy for employees that smoke. Employees who smoke tend to be calmer, not necessarily due to smoking and it's well known health risk associations (that actually increase stress, anxiety and general well-being) but due to the fact that they take often small breaks during the day of 5-10 minutes every other hour. Smoking pauses are socially accepted. Make Mindfulness practice socially accepted too!

As a company implementing Mindfulness, you will need to provide some facilities. These could be an available room where participants can practice, providing dedicated time to employees and potentially some equipment such as a sound box.

Why is Mindfulness Important?

Practicing mindfulness trains your brain. It allows you to become more focused, less stressed and improve your creativity. It also allows you to regain energy throughout the day, by taking pauses purposefully. Awareness of thinking patterns allows you to become more friendly and kinder - not only to yourself, but also to others.

Mindfulness is a practice to become aware and into the present moment without judging yourself and others.

What’s the Science behind Mindfulness?

Nearly 40 years ago (late 1970’s) the effects of mindfulness meditation were investigated in the medical domain. The scientists (Kabat Zinn et al.) found out that chronic pain patients can be free of their suffering during the meditation sessions. Perceived stress is reduced and life-satisfaction improved. These findings were encouraging, so that neuroscientists (Richard Davidson et al.) started to study the effects of mindfulness meditation on the brain. In the early 1990’s technology allowed to visualize with EEGs or magnetic resonance brain images. The scientists could show what happened in the brain due to mindfulness meditation. This ‘objectivity’ inspired science across the globe to investigate the phenomenon of mindfulness meditation. Science then thousands of articles were published worldwide (American Mindfulness Research Association, 2018).
